Recent Funding

TMG Partners and its principals have been active participants in supporting the Bay Area’s network of nonprofit organizations through corporate and individual philanthropic endeavors for our entire 39 years.

For the past several years, TMG Partners has been honored with a Corporate Philanthropy Award by the San Francisco Business Times, and listed as one of the Top 100 Philanthropic Companies in the Bay Area.

The firm and its principals are focused on the issues, needs, and people with whom we identify through our many experiences in the communities where we live and work – and where we wish to continue to serve.  We are committed to supporting and improving the health of the greater Bay Area region.

In addition to TMG’s philanthropic focuses as described below, the firm participates in company-wide annual days of service at charitable organizations throughout the Bay Area. Most recently, our days of service have included volunteering at the following organizations:

We measure our success at TMG Partners by what we can contribute beyond the performance of our development projects to support and improve the health of the Bay Area region as a whole. Our categories for giving include:

Caring for Our Communities and the Region

Housing, Community and the Arts

As developers, we remain committed to equal housing opportunities across our region. As such, we physically participate in construction and reconstruction of community properties, and support organizations that are dedicated to innovative approaches to address all levels of affordability across physical or geographic barriers.

In October 2017, Michael Covarrubias co-launched a private-public partnership in coordination with SV@Home, The San Francisco Foundation, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) called "CASA - The Committee to House the Bay Area", with Denise Pinkston chairing the Production Committee. Together, they were able to unite a group of 50 Bay Area housing, for-profit, nonprofit, political, social equity, corporate and labor groups towards the goal of “uniting government officials, labor leaders, equity groups, real estate developers, and the business community to help solve the Bay Area's regional housing challenges.” The organization has recently released the CASA Compact, a 15-year emergency plan that confronts the region’s housing crisis, which is now headed to the state legislature. To further these efforts, Pinkston co-founded and is the Board President of the Casita Coalition, which advocates for small homes - ADUs, cottage clusters, and duplexes - to help improve housing choice and opportunity throughout California.

As an extension of our dedication to equal housing opportunities across the Bay Area is our parallel commitment to culture and the arts. Appreciation and preservation of music, dance, theater, and art are integral to social and philosophical education. Thus, we support the institutions that rely on contributions that carry forth those creators and their creations, therein influencing a greater sense of well-being, understanding, and inspiration.

Our recent giving to and involvement in organizations dedicated to Housing, Community & the Arts include: San Francisco Housing Action Coalition, Urban Solutions, TransForm, San Francisco Parks Alliance, Market Street AssociationChinese American Voters Education Committee, Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, Non Profit Housing Association of Northern California, Berkeley Rep Theatre, California Housing Consortium, Oakland Art Murmur, Tipping Point, San Francisco Ballet, San Francisco Heritage, St. Anthony's, SPUR, ULI Foundation, BANDALOOP, Oakland Ballet, Corporation of the Fine Arts Museum, Glide Memorial, Project Open Hand, SF-Marin Food Bank, Festival Napa Valley, North Beach Citizens, Friends of San Francisco City, Enterprise Community Partners, SF Made, SFJazz, and the Flight Deck/Ragged Wing Ensemble in Oakland.

“Each of us is personally compelled to contribute and make an impact.”

Youth and Education

All of us at TMG understand the critical need for the health, welfare and education of our children, our next generation. We believe in charter schools, mentoring, after school athletics and job training – whether in technology, manual skills, financial analysis or what it takes to fulfill a child’s goals and dreams.

Our past contributions supporting the protection and empowerment of children and better education in our communities included mentoring a young student from Cristo Rey, a private, all-girls Catholic high school in San Francisco dedicated to students from underserved communities with on-the-job training. We are also strong supporters of buildOn whose mission is to engage students in challenging urban areas, drawing out their limitless power they can achieve through community action.

Additional organizations we support that are dedicated to Youth & Education include The Willie L. Brown, Jr. Institute on Politics & Public Service, Burlingame Community Education Foundation, Boys & Girls Club, East Bay College Fund, Haas Business School Fund, Hanna Boys Center, Oakland Public Education Fund, Scholarmatch, Summer Search, Vincent Academy, We Care Service for Children, and the Jewish Vocational & Career Counseling Service.

Environmental Responsibility

The footprint we seek to leave for our next generation demands our custodianship of the natural environment through sustainability in the built environment, a robust regional transportation system, efficient use of our resources, and the preservation of natural habitats. We build our projects accordingly, partnering with like-minded business and environmental leaders, and supporting thoughtful organizations that are on the cutting edge of bettering our world – and especially at home here in the Bay Area.

One of the most pressing issues in our region is the rise in the sea level that threatens the health of the San Francisco Bay ecosystem and the communities that surround it. In 2016, TMG Partners made a major contribution to People for a Clean and Healthy Bay, a historic nine-county Bay Area campaign to help restore the Bay and protect the region from flooding.

Some of the other organizations we support that are dedicated to Environmental Responsibility & Sustainability include California Fire Foundation, Center for Creative Land Recycling, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, Greenbelt Alliance, and San Francisco Parks Alliance

Health and Well Being

Communities are only as healthy as those who live in them. Many of our projects include or are adjacent to healthcare, medical and biotech facilities – not just the lifeblood of care but of remarkable research. TMG has donated both time and financial support to many of these non-profit and for-profit research hospitals and facilities in the hope we can hasten the other “developments” – from care to cure, from new findings to successful clinical trials and the many advancements that we believe are possible.

Some of the organizations we support include City of Hope, American Heart AssociationUCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, Dignity Health Foundation, American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter, UCSF Foundation, Avon Walk to End Breast Cancer, Hospice by the Bay, Planned Parenthood, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and Cystinosis Research Foundation

Community and Industry Leadership

In addition to the funding initiatives mentioned above, TMG Partners and its principals hold leadership positions at various organizations across the Bay Area. These include: Urban Land Institute (ULI)Bay Area Council, Habitat for Humanity Greater San FranciscoOpportunity FundbuildOn, and Vincent Academy.
